POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Associate Director, Digital Product Management oversees the technical digital strategy and project management for Health Affairs journal, Forefront, health policy briefs and other digital content. In addition, this position works closely with the Digital Strategy Director and leads on technical development for new digital products emerging from Health Affairs’ digital strategy.

This position manages the technical vendor relationships with key technology content platforms for Health Affairs such as the content hosting platform, taxonomy vendor, customer data platform, analytics program and other new tech as required.

Key to the position’s success are development of a product and optimization roadmap, and building collaboration and communication among cross-functional project teams comprised of editorial, digital, technical, production, design, business and communications staff members. This position will guide the technical design of highly dynamic, data-driven experiences and be responsible for overseeing the development, testing and successful delivery of those experiences.

The position reports to the Director of Digital Strategy.

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop an annual strategy and roadmap to deliver the digital team towards achievement of the 5-year strategic plan and other business priorities, as defined by senior management.
  • Oversee the technical and product management aspects of creation and delivery of digital content projects through the planning and controlling of scope, budget, and time schedules.
  • Establish high-level technical project plans and schedules including detailed task lists for all digital components.
  • Build and deploy a rapid testing program across all digital channels, ensuring an ‘always on’ testing approach and consistently sharing back results and analysis.
  • Perform background research and conduct working sessions with internal and external stakeholders for priority digital projects.
  • Design and manage technical solutions in collaboration with digital, solution architect, design, and engineering team members – both internal and external.
  • Manage and test for quality control of product releases and system upgrades, including performance metrics, usability, reliability, and integration of systems.
  • Design and deploy an optimization strategy to improve the path to purchase for online purchases, working closely with vendors and agency partners.
  • Manage dependencies for all program components, creating risk-mitigations plans, and demonstrating leadership during the implementation and execution of the plan.
  • Lead and develop collaborative working relationships with cross-functional teams in the implementation and ongoing development of technical publishing platforms and products, including regular communication and expectation management.
  • Guide and monitor work from all resources to achieve strategic content, schedule, and budget requirements.
  • Provide training and education for new and ongoing technical product and content developments
  • Provide best practice guidance and support to Health Affairs team members using the products and content systems.
  • Triage issues and help coordinate sprint planning activities.
  • Manage the technical integrity of Health Affairs digital properties, resolving issues as and when the occur and overcoming technical challenges that often exist with integrations and aggregated data sets.
  • Manage digital certification and legal requirements to ensure compliance, such as the security certificate, ownership of the current and new domains, etc.
  • Identify and secure resources where necessary for content projects (vendors, staffing, technical resources).
  • Manage uploads and edits to thesaurus and taxonomies, working cross-functionally with internal editorial and production team members and external vendors on taxonomy implementation, management and version control.
  • Work with Project HOPE Global IT leadership and staff on technical systems integration and system-level troubleshooting.
  • Host and regularly refresh reporting dashboards which require unique scripts and integrations to run within the host’s computer.
  • Manage IT security and password protocols for the entire Health Affairs tech stack.
    Serve as line manager to the Website Coordinator, interns and other new team members as required.
  • Represent Health Affairs as a digital leader at relevant conferences and working groups.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor Degree or Equivalent; Master’s level degree a plus
  • 8+ years of experience in Project Management
  • 8+ years of technical experience in a digital publishing capacity
  • 6+ year of experience with technical tools and platforms that are part of the Health Affairs tech stack, which include: Atypon, Literatum, ESP platforms (Active Campaign and SendGrid), Google Suite of Products (Analytics, Search Console, Tag Manager, Adsense), Pixfuture, Customer Data Platforms (Blueconic or other), Fulfillment vendors (Omeda or other)
  • 2+ years of management experience
  • Technically curious and unafraid to get hands dirty with systems and software
  • Ability to adapt effectively to rapidly changing technology and apply it to business need
  • Strategic, diligent, collaborative and creative approach to problem solving
  • Project/task scoping and estimation experience
  • Can work in a structured and methodical way, with the ability to manage competing demands and effectively prioritize tasks
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills, particularly influencing, listening, and team-building skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including confident and articulate presenter to all management levels and proven ability to chair meetings proficiently
  • Thorough understanding of overall website architecture, ability to perform back-end and front-end administration, and advanced knowledge of website editing tools
  • Experience with project management tools used for task/time/resource management, such as JIRA and Asana
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Suite of tools
  • Strong commitment to realizing the mission of Health Affairs, and adhering to the values of Project HOPE required
