We are seeking a Senior Infographic Designer to join our graphics team. The ideal candidate is a creative thinker with a deep understanding of data visualization, editorial storytelling and focused on cross-platform design craft. In this role, you will be responsible for producing compelling infographics and data visualizations for both digital and print publication.

You will collaborate closely with journalists, editors, and producers to bring complex ideas to life through visual storytelling that is clear, accurate, and engaging–regardless of medium.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design high-impact infographics for both print and digital platforms, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and design consistency.
  • Work with editors, reporters, data journalists, producers and fellow graphic designers to conceptualise visual storytelling solutions that complement and elevate the journalism.
  • Oversee and execute major visual projects, from concept development to final delivery.
  • Lead day-to-day project workflows, helping to prioritize assignments and ensure deadlines are met, especially during breaking news stories.
  • Adapt designs and layouts to suit the specific needs of digital platforms (e.g., responsive formats, interactivity, social channels) and print constraints (e.g., layout, image treatment, color specifications).
  • Maintain and evolve The Telegraph’s visual style guidelines to support brand coherence across all platforms.
  • Mentor and support infographic designers, providing guidance and quality control.
  • Stay current on best practices in visual journalism, design trends, and tools for both print and digital media.
  • Under tight editorial deadlines, deliver work to a high standard which is well considered and meticulously crafted.
  • Work a variety of morning and evening shifts across a 7-day rota

Key Skills

  • Professional experience in information design or visual journalism, with a comprehensive graphic design portfolio showcasing high standards of work across both digital and print formats.
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) with strong layout and typography skills.
  • Expertise in Figma is considered a bonus.
  • Proficiency in digital visualization tools such as Datawrapper, Flourish and Raw.
  • Basic coding for web (HTML/CSS) is a must, a familiarity with programming languages (Python, JS) is a plus
  • Proven ability to transform data and editorial content into clear, compelling visual formats.
  • In-depth knowledge of visual hierarchy, typography, colour, storytelling, and user experience across mediums.
  • Comfortable working with datasets (Excel, Google Sheets, CSV) and carrying out basic data analysis.
  • Familiarity with cartography and mapping tools such as QGIS and have worked with geospatial data previously.
  • Excellent time management and project coordination skills, especially under deadline pressure.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BA (Hons) degree or higher education equivalent qualification relative to the job role
  • Experience working in a newsroom or editorial environment, particularly in covering breaking news events.
  • Background in journalism, visual communication, or information design.
