The Senior Data Communications Specialist is usually an individual contributor in a specific area of expertise and is accountable for professional functions and/or systems. The Senior Research Data Communications Specialist may provide guidance to other professionals and administrative staff either in a project management or technical capacity. The Senior Research Data Communications Specialist is considered a career level professional and works with minimal supervision.
POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Develops products presenting NACCHO research and evaluation data (e.g., reports, presentations, infographics).
- Coordinates data dissemination strategies to improve uptake among diverse audiences, including identifying timely data stories and sharing data insights through relevant communications channels (e.g., NACCHO’s social media, news).
- Guides the use of data analytics to ensure that the presentation of data provides opportunities for meaningful insights.
- Manages the process through which data visualizations are integrated into publications internally and externally, including implementing and enforcing quality control for data and visualizations used.
- Supports the development of innovative ways of crafting data storytelling, including interactivity, dashboards, and applications readily available, using the latest technological developments.
- Executes an evaluation process to assess reach and impact of data communications activities.
- Generates periodical reports on analytics regarding reach, impact, and identification of high-performing data stories.
- Serves as a subject matter expert to NACCHO programs and NACCHO’s Marketing and Communications team to advise NACCHO staff members on reporting, visualizing, and disseminating research and evaluation data.
- Assists NACHCO staff members in selecting and monitoring the quality of work completed by external consultants that design data products and content strategy.
- Co-authors written products based on R&E-led studies, including methodology, charts, figures, and analytical text.
- May provide periodic analytic support for major research and evaluation projects across NACCHO.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
Bachelor’s degree and certification in relevant professional field with a minimum of 5-7 years relevant work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, including a relevant certification. Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to apply storytelling techniques to translate research and evaluation data into actionable insights.
- Experience with data visualization software/tools (Excel and Tableau required; PowerBI, Flourish, Datawrapper, and/or ArcGIS preferred).
- Experience with graphic design (e.g., infographics, dashboards, research reports)
- Familiarity with user-centered design preferred.
- Familiarity with creating interactive graphics using HTML, CSS, and/or Javascript (including the D3 visualization library) preferred.
- Familiarity with coding languages like R or Python preferred.
- Experience computing basic descriptive statistics (percentages, means, medians)
- Experience collecting qualitative data (via interviews, focus groups) and accurately summarizing the data.
- Experience with spreadsheet, word processing, statistical programs (Stata preferred), qualitative analysis (N-VIVO preferred), and web-based survey software (Qualtrics preferred)
SALARY RANGE
$74,883 – $78,842
