Position Overview

The Knowledge and Learning Manager is part of the operation team and plays a vital role in ensuring GEO staff have the knowledge and information they need to maximize effectiveness. They are responsible for strengthening the availability, accuracy and usability of data and information so that GEO staff can make informed decisions that advance our mission. They champion knowledge-sharing practices and create the conditions for knowledge to flow across individuals and departments. They maintain attention to detail in daily operations, providing on-time support and guidance to colleagues on software operating procedures, and holds a birds-eye view to ensure software systems are meeting organizational needs. The Knowledge and Learning Manager identifies key questions and needs across the organization and collaboratively works to develop solutions.

 

This position reports to the Director of Learning and works collaboratively across the organization to ensure effective knowledge management and overall strategic learning.

 

This role includes ~5% travel for conference participation or other field engagements.

 

Classification
GEO recognizes a staff bargaining unit, 1199SEIU, affiliated with the United Healthcare Workers East. This position is included in GEO’s bargaining unit. Specific employment terms are subject to collective bargaining.
Key Responsibilities

Knowledge Management
●        Serves as the lead administrator for GEO’s organization-wide software programs (including but not limited to Salesforce, Sharepoint, Slack, Asana and Zoom) ensuring effective integration and use by all staff.

●        Defines GEO’s knowledge management strategy to ensure all-staff are aligned on how we save, use and protect data and how the data is used to advance the mission.

●        Regularly assesses needs, diagnoses issues and troubleshoots any errors that arise through the ongoing use of these software systems.

●        Performs Salesforce audits to ensure that relevant data is being entered accurately and consistently and communicates with the appropriate Salesforce users on areas of focus. Responsible for acting on the results of the audits – filling in gaps and working with staff to get them completed.

●        Maintains data integrity and ensures all staff can access the information they need to perform their roles most effectively, including leading Data Action Days and other internal initiatives.

●        Creates guidelines for staff, including and not limited to naming conventions for file storage, standard operating procedures, and file retention policies.

●        Develops and maintains relationships with internal stakeholders and holds a knowledge of basic business functions across the organization, in order to issue systems improvements.

●        Serves as the primary point person for any external consulting support related to org-wide software programs.

●        Provides guidance and solicits input from the full staff on knowledge management processes and protocols at staff meetings, internal learning sessions, team meetings and 1:1 conversations.

●        Works with members of the operations team to ensure a smooth handoff between staff onboarding and ongoing execution of software programs.

 

Organizational Learning
●        Supports strategic decision-making by generating reports and dashboards to highlight progress towards strategic goals and evaluate organizational impact.

●        Analyzes and summarizes findings from GEO’s data collection activities, including programmatic surveys and engagement trends.

●        Provides logistics support for internal learning activities, including staff meetings, internal learning sessions and staff retreats.

●        Supports and engages with GEO’s Strategic Learners Network and participates in other field conversations related to effective organizational learning.

 

Team Participation and Planning
●        Develops and manages project-specific budgets, understands how individual project budgets connect to the broader peer learning and organizational budgets.

●        Supports internal learning through providing substantive feedback on team activities, as well as sharing back learning from work throughout the year.

●        Contributes to and models a positive and equitable operations team culture and organization-wide culture.

●        Coordinates with colleagues on joint projects and completes other duties as assigned.

 

Culture Transformation/Racial Equity

●        Helps GEO make progress on our strategy, advance our change agenda and serve the field in the areas of culture, racial equity and organizational structure and talent.

●        Engages in and contributes to full and small group conversations around centering racial equity in GEO’s internal culture and external programming.

Relationship Building and Management

●        Engages GEO members and key partners in GEO’s mission and strategy through research, interviewing, meetings, event support and fundraising.

●        Facilitates timely communications and relationships between GEO and our key stakeholders, including members, prospective members, partners, funders and volunteers. Promotes, recruits and retains GEO membership and fundraising support as appropriate.

●        Interacts regularly with GEO members — respond to their queries and help them feel heard, understood and welcome in the community as appropriate. Foster member connections to each other and to resources relevant to their work.

Compensation and Benefits
GEO offers a competitive salary ($78k-$97k). The starting salary is based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience. To counter pay inequity and uphold internal parity, we use a nonnegotiable starting salary system, while benchmarking our pay to competitive markets.
