About the Role
As a Data Visualization Designer at RANE, you will play a key role in shaping how complex risk data is translated into clear, compelling, and accurate visual stories. You will collaborate closely with design, analysis, product, and marketing teams to transform analytical, geographic, and time-based data into charts, maps, infographics, and editorial report layouts that help users understand and explore risk-related insights.
This role is ideal for a designer who can balance visual clarity with rigor, being comfortable working with structured datasets, quantitative data, and geographic information to help our editorial analyses come to life. The work spans data visualizations, research-driven reports, and select marketing assets, requiring strong attention to detail, data integrity, and visual storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Visualization
- Visual Interpretation: When provided with editorial content, paired with raw, structured datasets, you will create compelling visualizations that tell the story of our content to help our users make intuitive sense of complicated issues.
- Geospatial Mastery: Create thematic and analytical maps using GIS tools, moving beyond “flat” map illustrations to data-driven geographic storytelling.
- Data Integrity: Audit all visual outputs against the source data to ensure that compelling visualizations are accurate and complete.
- Standardization: Contribute to our Data Visualization Style Guide (specifically for chart types, color palettes for categorical vs. sequential data, and typography for legibility).
- Graphic Design
- Asset Adaptation: Translate complex internal data findings into elegant visual assets for marketing and web, without losing the nuance of the risk analysis.
- Visual Consistency: Ensure all reports and visualizations align with RANE’s brand identity while prioritizing the clarity of the data above decorative elements.
- Editorial Layout: Architect long-form, research-driven PDF reports in Adobe InDesign, ensuring high-density information remains readable and professional.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, Visual Communication, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience translating complex or quantitative information into visual formats.
- Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign; working knowledge of Photoshop and Figma.
- Experience working with Esri ArcGIS or similar GIS tools.
- Experience creating charts, maps, or infographics for reports, research, or analytical products.
- Portfolio that clearly showcases data visualization, mapping, or analytical design work (not only branding or marketing).
- Strong communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
Preferred
- Background in data visualization, research design, policy, risk analysis, or analytical storytelling.
- Experience designing long-form editorial reports or publications.
Location
- This is a remote role with no mandatory office reporting.
Salary Range
- $65,000 – $85,000
