The opportunity
We’re looking for a passionate Senior Product Designer who thrives on the challenge of building technical tools and scalable systems with precision. You’ll define the product experience that data scientists and engineers use to operate their AI systems reliably and responsibly. From real-time dashboards, new data visualizations, alerting and notification systems, to platform features and the design language that unites the experience; your work will help make it easy for users to understand and act on the data they observe in the system.
As a full stack designer embedded with the frontend team you’ll collaborate closely with both the data science and backend teams. You’ll help define requirements and drive all stages of the product design process for the features you work on. You’ll be an advocate for the best possible user experience and follow a well-defined human centered design process that includes research and discovery, idea generation, visual and interaction design, prototyping, and engineering hand-off. You’ll have a big say in the evolution of our design system as we enter the next phase of growth. More importantly, you’ll get to write your own adventure – and play to your strengths.
Your day-to-day:
- Work closely with the leadership team, engineers, and data scientists to understand how our customers use WhyLabs and what they need to succeed
- See your design work through from start to finish: turn insights from user research into ideas, sketch and prototype to bring them to life, and ship products and features that improve WhyLabs
- Be the expert in your product area working closely with the frontend team, so you can all do your best work together
- Communicate your design work and the support for your design decisions across the company
Requirements:
- You have 6+ years of experience in digital product design, with at least 3 years working closely with engineers in an agile environment to build enterprise software, SaaS, or analytics tools
- You have an online portfolio (or work samples) featuring data-centric design projects
- You are an excellent visual and written communicator, and can communicate support for your design decisions
- You understand systems thinking and component-based design patterns
- You’re comfortable giving and receiving feedback
- Your typography, interaction design, and visual design skills are top-notch
- You understand how to make your designs accessible and the importance of inclusive design
- You know when to deliver either low, medium, or high fidelity designs
- You have experience with Figma and other popular design and prototyping tools (e.g. Sketch, InVision, Principle, Framer)
- You want to work in a rapidly changing, high-growth startup environment
- You are comfortable owning the end-to-end design process, describing your vision, determining success, and clarifying ambiguity
Preferred requirements:
- You have experience designing data visualizations, and/or experience working with popular libraries D3, Plotly, Matplotlib, Bokeh, Seaborn, Vega/Altair, etc.
- You have a degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or equivalent professional experience
- You have experience driving generative and evaluative research activities end-to-end
- You have experience designing products for machine learning systems (MLUX), and are familiar with the process build and operate machine learning models
- You have an interest and/or experience working with statistics
- You can prototype HTML, CSS, or React/Javascript
