California Department of Public Health
The Substance and Addiction Prevention Branch (SAPB) of the California Department of Public Health would like to share this exciting opportunity to join the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Evaluation Unit and conduct critical work for the state of California’s harm reduction efforts.
The Research Scientist III (RS III) works under the general direction of the Research Scientist Supervisor I, Chief, of the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Evaluation Unit, within the Substance and Addiction Prevention Branch (SAPB). SAPB has four core programmatic areas: overdose, cannabis, alcohol, and problem gambling, and places an emphasis on healthy equity, the social determinants of health, and harm reduction as part of our programmatic efforts. The RS III leads the development and implementation of epidemiological and evaluation projects related to alcohol, cannabis, and other substances. The RS III will use behavioral sciences theoretical models and epidemiological research methods to evaluate data sources, develop scientific indicators and tools, conduct scientific studies, oversee the implementation of an evaluation plan, conduct analyses, write up reports, data briefs, and manuscripts for dissemination to diverse audiences, and develop and maintain data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau). The RS III will be responsible for ensuring the scientific quality of all administrative and research reporting requirements. Telework will be considered; however, all State of California employees must have a primary residence in California at the time of appointment.
