Website censysio Censys

The cybersecurity start-up making the internet a safer place.

We are headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan but are open to hiring the right candidate to work remotely.

Censys ingests millions of certificates and billions of network handshakes daily and exposes these data to customers to help them secure their organization by understanding their network attack surface. We’re a true startup with midwestern roots and a brilliant academia-backed founding team. We’re looking for a high-energy, action-oriented person who is interested in helping build a product and culture that we’re proud of for years to come.

We’re looking to add a Data Visualization Developer to join our Reporting and Insights team. You will help build a SaaS product that enables security practitioners and analysts to explore and draw security insights from the most trusted and credible internet data that exists (ours)! Censys processes terabytes of network data everyday—it’s your job to help us leverage that data to provide valuable insights to our customers by building an easy to use, intuitive product.

In this role, you will collaborate with our data platform team to build new reporting and insights infrastructure and with our design team to create scalable, responsive visualizations that communicate actionable security insights. You will have the opportunity to help shape a new wave of reporting and insights solutions from the ground up, including selecting and deploying appropriate technologies, advocating for new data sources and aggregations, and implementing interfaces that make it easy for our customers to make sense of their data and decide how to prioritize their security efforts.

While your focus will ultimately be creating effective visualizations, we are looking for candidates who care deeply about their customers and are willing to contribute to the entire process of crafting reporting and insights solutions, from discussions about data architecture all the way to the design and implementation of the final visualizations. Despite your specialized skills, you are not content just being handed a data interface and a design to implement; you are passionate about understanding all facets of a problem and collaborating cross-functionally to arrive at an effective solution. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

This job is a good fit if you can:

  • Thrive in a fast paced startup environment where changes happen quickly.
  • Contribute to our culture of learning. Take ownership of issues, admit mistakes, and work to improve over time.
  • Operate and contribute effectively as part of a team where we work together to solve problems.
  • Derive actionable insights from complex data and create intuitive data visualizations to bring those insights to users.

What you will do:

  • Collaborate with product, customer success, data science and engineering, and design partners to help our customers gather insights from complex data.
  • Help select and implement a new reporting engine to match and then expand on our current reporting functionality.
  • Explore our data and advocate for new data sources and aggregations as necessary to realize the visualization solutions you devise with our partners across the organization.
  • Implement responsive, scalable visualizations, selecting the best libraries and technologies to get the job done.
  • Venture beyond the frontend as necessary to ensure that we deliver reliable solutions founded on validated, appropriate data flows.

What skills and experience you might have:

  • At least 3 years of software engineering experience, with at least 1 year of experience building data visualizations and related systems.
  • Knowledge of React, JS/TS; willingness to work with other parts of our codebase (mostly Python and Go), learning the basics of new languages and technologies as necessary.
  • Ability and commitment to produce readable, well tested code.
  • Experience working with large, heterogeneous data sets.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to influence and manage stakeholders across the business.
  • Ability to adapt to business directive reprioritization, team structure changes.

Additional qualities that will help you hit the ground running

  • Cybersecurity knowledge, or an active interest in learning.
  • Experience with GCP.
  • Familiarity with the ELK stack.
  • Familiarity with OLAP.
  • Experience with tools such as Looker or Tableau.
  • Experience deploying solutions and integrating monitoring and alerting systems.
