About the Program: WRI Core Communications team, based largely in Washington DC, oversees strategy and outreach for the Institute in support of WRI leadership, program, centers and international offices. Communications is crucial to WRI’s success at achieving rapid, systemic changes. The global communications team strives to work as an integrated global network to expand WRI’s reach, reputation and impact.
Job Highlight: In this role, you will help WRI tell engaging, data driven stories about a broad range of environmental topics, using modern data visualization technologies and techniques.
You will be supported by the Senior Design Project Manager, Graphic Designers, as well as the larger Core Communications team.
You will report to the Creative Director.
This position will be a hybrid model of remote and in-office.
What you will do:
Data Visualization (60% time)
– You will build visualizations for WRI’s online journal, Insights, working with authors and editors to tell stories using data.
– You will design graphics for publications, WRI’s online journal, Insights, and social media.
Visualization Research and Development (30% time)
You will be responsible for the analysis, design, and development of data visualization products using existing/emerging vendor and custom technology solutions.
Data Journalism (10% time)
You will work with the Data Lab team to identify and expand storytelling opportunities within WRI’s programs.
What you will need:
Education: You have a Bachelors degree in Graphic Design or related field
Experience: You have a minimum of 7-10 years full-time relevant work experience in data visualization and graphic design and experience communicating with designers. Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite and experience in JavaScript/HTM/CSS is required for this position.
You have also collaborated with researchers and authors to tell the most effective story possible
Languages: Verbal and written proficiency in English.
Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization.
