UNDP Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS) is looking to hire a Data Visualization Analyst (IPSA-9) for the SDG Integration Team. The incumbent will use data to visual storytelling, strengthening the identification of emerging trends, improving the understanding of evolving development issues, and leading to the design of better development solutions. They will work to develop the data stories on Data Futures Platform – https://data.undp.org/. The platform includes raw data sets, simulators and actionable insights, allowing users to both run their own estimation and access relevant analyses to inform policies, programmes and advocacy efforts.

As a Data Visualization Analyst, your main responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Design and develop visualizations and data stories from raw data, aggregated data, insight data, and machine learning model data.
  • Develop infographics through sourcing data and produce storyboards on selected issues related to poverty, inequality, and inclusive and sustainable growth;
  • Work closely with “clients” – i.e. thematic teams and Country Offices – to generate visualizations and insights on specific topics using both primary and secondary data;
  • Design UI/UX for solutions helping users gather meaningful insights from data
  • Lead on decision making regarding selection of tools, presentation and approach for each activity based on client objectives, data sources and audience.

Required Skills:

  • Experience organising and visualising data for analysis, insights and storytelling;
  • In-depth knowledge and skills using D3 with React for building data visualisation;
  • Skilled with common front-end technologies like HTML, CSS, Typescript and JavaScript
  • Experience in front-end framework like React
  • Ability to analyse results by triangulating quantitative and qualitative data and evidence;
  • Ability to evaluate, transform and model data to derive relevant findings;
  • Familiarity running data viz projects from start to end, including requirements gathering, feedback sessions, assessing data, advising on different options for automation and tool choice, presenting to clients, project planning

Good to have:

  • Experience using data visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Flourish, or others;
  • Experience working with and analysing socioeconomic data;
  • Ability to solve complex business problems using analytical approaches, data, and a strong passion for empirical research;
  • Ability to facilitate data analysis sessions with statisticians, economists and policy experts.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in IT, design or relevant field
  • Bachelor’s degree with additional two years of of experience may be taken into consideration in lieu of Master’s degree

Work Experience

  • Masters degree with 2 years relevant experience in data visualisation, or Bachelors degree with 4 years relevant experience
