Job description
Working with the whole of the Carbon Brief team and reporting to our Senior Multimedia Producer, you’ll produce a range of multimedia content to support our journalism.

This will involve creating content for Carbon Brief articles and social media, including charts, maps, interactive data visualisations, animations and video.

You’ll have good graphic design skills and an understanding of basic charts. You’ll also know the types of content that work well on social media platforms, such as X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Youtube. Experience with content management systems, preferably WordPress, would be an advantage.

We are open to applicants who are early in their career and might not have all the required experience yet, but who can show us that they are right for this role. We can provide in-house training, where appropriate.

Main responsibilities

Produce graphics, maps, interactive data visuals, video and other multimedia content for Carbon Brief articles and social media.
Support writers by creating charts using in-house tools and software.
Support the wider multimedia team to develop interactive features.
Storyboard short-form video and animation for different social media platforms.
Keep abreast of emerging technologies and new storytelling techniques.
Produce content that follows house style guidelines, and work to a deadline.
Experience
Required

An eye for design; excellent graphic design skills and basic chart literacy.
Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, including creating graphics and images with Photoshop and Illustrator.
Know how to clean and reformat data, and use visualisation tools such as Datawrapper, Flourish or Highcharts.
Knowledge of video production and editing; good shooting skills and experience editing video and audio with Premiere Pro and Audition.
Experience creating web content, with a good understanding of social media platforms as well as how best to format and utilise content for each one.
A keen interest in digital communications and industry trends.
Desirable

Some front-end web development skills are an advantage, including Javascript, HTML and CSS.
Experience working with mapping software including QGIS or Mapbox.
Animating data and video graphics with After Effects.
Experience using a CMS, preferably WordPress.
Good understanding working with Google Docs, Sheets, Trello and Slack.
