Do data viz and analysis for policy and equity.

If you’re a data analytics professional interested in using your data analysis and visualization skills for public service, equity, transparency, and policy for a local government office, you’re encouraged to apply for Director of Data Analytics at the Cook County Assessor’s Office.

Our team produces the Automated Valuation Model that estimates property values for over 1 million homes in Chicago and the rest of Cook County. We also:

  • conduct policy analyses,
  • publish data to Cook County’s Open Data Portal, and
  • develop public-facing dashboards, reports, talks, and tools to inform the public and drive policy changes about property assessments and tax policy.

The Data team is a 6-person team of public service professionals with varied academic, public, and private sector backgrounds. Our schedule is hybrid: typically we spend 3 days a week in the downtown Chicago office, and do occasional remote work and collaboration. You’ll report to the Chief Data Officer, Nicole Jardine.

An ideal candidate:

  • has used data analysis and visualization tools such as R, python, Tableau, or Power BI,
  • has an analytics background in real estate, public policy, or the social sciences, and
  • is motivated to learn and serve the public good.

This is a government position. US Citizenship is not required, but note that you must be eligible to work in the United States and visa sponsorship is not an option.
